Award-winning RUSQUARTET holds a unique place among the string ensembles of its generation. Founded by four brilliant musicians at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory, it has since garnered critical acclaim and legions of fans as it has performed on the world’s premier stages over the course of its international career. RUSQUARTET’s exciting repertory and stellar performances grace the stages of the Grand Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Vienna’s Musikverein, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw.
The members of the RUSQUARTET, Xenia Gamaris, Anna Yanchishina, Ksenia Zhuleva, and Peter Karetnikov share a passion for new music, regularly premiering new works. Staples of their repertory include Louis Andriessen’s works for string quartet, Jonatan Dove “Out of time”, a string quartets by Lera Auerbach, as well as works by Alexander Tchaikovsky, Kelly-Marie Murphy, Steve Martland and Olli Mustonen.
RUSQUARTET champions works of lesser-known composers of the past by Myaskovsky, Lex van Delden, Oscar van Hemel, giving a world premiere of Samuel Feinberg’s two-part string quartet, which manuscript has been recently discovered.
RUSQUARTET released multiple recordings on the Etcetera label, including award-winning Mozart Requiem and Tchaikovsky Vol. 1&2.
Since 2016 the ensemble has been a resident quartet at Netherlands’ The Orlando Music Festival. RUSQUARTET has had a long-standing relationship with Banff International Music Festival, Canada, since being the first Russian quartet in its competition in 2007.
The creative programming finds RUSQUARTET in frequent collaboration with colleagues such as the Glinka, Borromeo Quartets, pianists Boris Berezovsky, Stephen Prutsman, Lukas Genuišas, and Kevin Kwan Loucks, cellist Andrés Díaz, Alexander Rudin, clarinetist Charles Neidich and Alan Kay, violinists Philippe Graffin ana Sergey Krylov and soprano Anna Lucia Richter.
Educational outreach is an integral part of RUSQUARTET’s philosophy and the ensemble regularly gives school presentations, master classes, and music talks that nurture the next generation of music lovers.
RUSQUARTET live broadcast performances include Canadian CBC radio, Australian SBS radio, and Russia’s «Orpheus» Radio, among others.
Among the ensemble’s prestigious awards is First Prize at Shostakovich International Quartet Competition in Moscow and 2020 Silver Star as Best Chamber Music CD at Music & Stars Awards.
